This film is the story of a young Swiss prodigy, Maxime Chabloz. A sporting story, at the heart of his conquest of world titles in two completely opposite disciplines: skiing and kite-surfing. But it is also a human, sensitive and intimate story, as close as possible to the life and emotions of a young man in pursuit of his dream.
Maxime is a born competitor. As he likes to point out: “I wouldn’t be here if the goal wasn’t to win.” At only twenty years old, he is already three times world champion in kite surfing, and once in freeride skiing in the junior category. But today he is playing in the big leagues, at the highest level of each of these disciplines. He aims to become the first world champion athlete in both practices.
It is through this quest that I am Maxime. Over the course of a year, throughout the seasons, I share his life during competitions, immersed in his daily life as an athlete. I follow the different stages of his ascent in all its dimensions: between sea and mountain, the joys of victory, the fears and moments of disappointment that mark his path. This film is a real plunge into the personality of an extraordinary athlete.
I also ask questions about life in a more general way. The question of innate and acquired arises. How was Maxime able to find himself so quickly at the top of two such distinct sports? Why does a young man of twenty feel the need to surpass himself to be the best? Where does this compelling desire to win come from? I propose here an introspective path, which over the situations encountered on the competitions, traces the profile of his personality.
Maxime is an ultra-gifted sportsman destined to become an emblematic figure of extreme sport in Switzerland. It is in total immersion with his thoughts that I evolve. I collect fragments of life.
This film is the intimate portrait of a gifted man, as comfortable on the snow as on the water.
